Towels Maintenance Guide to Help Them Last Longer
Towels
that are soft, absorbent, and durable. To help maximise the life of your
towels, check out our simple guide for towel care.
What to Avoid
To
maintain the premium quality and performance of your towels, avoid using fabric
softeners. Towels absorb the detergents used on them and using excess
detergents will decrease their performance. Be careful to avoid using any
bleaching agents in your wash/ around your towels to avoid discolouration.
Washing
Hand towels and bath towels should be washed around every third use for best hygiene practises. Wash them in lukewarm or cold water (washing cotton over 40 degrees will begin to break down the cotton fibres, which causes pilling and thinning of the towel). Aim to use mild detergent only, as soap and softener build-up inhibits drying performance.
Drying
Ensure
that before drying, you give your towels a shake to fluff up the fabric. We recommend
allowing towels to dry naturally, but you can tumble dry on low for a short
cycle to fluff up the towels before use. Drying cotton towels at
temperatures 40°C will damage the cotton and reduce the life of the towel.
Folding
For
proper folding, first, lay the towel flat on a surface and smooth out any
wrinkles. Begin with the long side of the towel, fold the length in thirds.
Follow this by grasping the short side and fold the towel in half. Repeat this
step with a neat square to maximum storage.
Storing
The
key rule of organising the linen closet is, less is more. Overloaded shelves
may cause wrinkles, unpleasant odours, or even mildew. Storing your towels near
your boiler or in a dry, warm cupboard will avoid them becoming damp.
Hanging
Between
uses, hang your towel to dry. Never pile damp towels on the floor, which can
result in the growth of mildew and mould. Always drape your towel and hang flat
and let air dry.
Replacing
Towels
are frequently washed, and with regular use, they eventually start looking old
and used. Replace your linens about every 2 years.
